JOB TITLE: Highway Maintenance Worker II

LOCATION: Burleigh County - Wilton Shop

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Under supervision of the County Road Superintendent and County Engineer, is responsible for performing general labor-type duties, hand and power tool operation, and intermediate level truck and equipment operation on various road and bridge projects.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Must have the ability to read and write.

Requires a valid North Dakota Class A drivers license non-air restricted and with a tanker endorsement.

Two (2) or more years of experience in the operation of various types of heavy equipment, truck driving and maintenance duties of highway and road projects are preferred.

Candidates must successfully complete a standard background and criminal record check along with an alcohol and controlled substance test and physical exam. Costs associated with these exams will be paid for by the County.

Must live within a 60-minute response time to the assigned shop.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Participates with other maintenance personnel to perform general labor duties using hand tools including but not limited to: shovels, rakes, post hole diggers, brooms, scrapers, etc. for use in shop and grounds maintenance, asphalt patching, preparing culvert beds, snow removal, etc.

2. Place traffic control signs and devices, assist traffic through work zones as required.

3. Operate jackhammers, air compressors, mechanical tampers, power saws, hydraulic drivers and similar equipment.

4. Operate dump trucks hauling maintenance material and may drive trucks in plowing snow and spreading traction material.

5. Operate a wide variety of heavy equipment to a varying degree of difficulty, including but not limited to the following: motor graders, front end loaders, bulldozers, scrapers, backhoes, rollers, mowers, trucks of all types, asphalt related equipment and other equipment associated with road and bridge maintenance.

6. Performs related work as required including repair, cleaning and maintenance of vehicles, buildings, and grounds as required.

7. Generates detailed daily timecards, material, and work reports.

8. Performs other duties as required and assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Observe established safety practices and procedures when working with tools and equipment.

Ensure equipment is in good operating condition by adjusting and performing routine maintenance as operating results and conditions require.

Create a positive and productive work atmosphere by communicating and maintaining a professional manner with supervisors, employees, and the general public.

Prepare daily work reports and record equipment maintenance activities.
